BOTTOU Privacy policy

What Bottou stores, and what it does not.

Bottou tracks your focus blocks, your ratings and your reflections. There is no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing is sold or shared. Everything listed on this page is everything the app handles — there is nothing else.

Your account

Bottou requires an account to use. The account stores your email address and a password, and exists for one purpose: carrying your focus history between your own devices. The password is stored only as a salted hash (bcrypt) — it cannot be read back. Sign-in sessions use signed tokens (JSON Web Tokens).

Your email address identifies your account. It is not used for marketing, there is no mailing list, and Bottou sends no email of any kind.

Data you create

  • Your focus blocks, with their start and stop times and the time zone they were recorded in
  • The reason each block ended, and the focus rating you gave it
  • Your daily reflections
  • App settings, which stay on your device

Focus data is stored on the server so it can sync between your devices, and a local copy lives on each device you sign in on. Signing out of a device removes the local copy from that device.

What Bottou does not do

  • No advertising, and no advertising identifiers
  • No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and no crash reporting
  • No background or automatic tracking of any kind — nothing is recorded without your tap
  • No selling, renting or sharing of your data
  • No profiling, and no use of your data to train anything
  • No access to contacts, photos, location or health data

Where your data is stored

On servers hosted by Railway. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt before storage. Authentication tokens are signed as JSON Web Tokens.

This website

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. It is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request information such as IP address in order to deliver the page and protect against abuse.

Data retention and deletion

Your data is kept until you delete it. Individual blocks and reflections can be deleted in the app, and Settings offers a delete-all option for your focus records. Deleting your account from within the app permanently removes your account and everything stored with it from the server, and wipes the device you deleted from. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. See account deletion for the steps.

Your rights

Everything Bottou holds about you is visible in the app itself — nothing is collected that you cannot see. You have the right to access the data held about you, request correction of anything inaccurate, request deletion, and export your data. To exercise any of these, get in touch through the support page.

Children

Bottou is not directed at children under 13, and no personal information is knowingly collected from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page is updated. Continued use of the app after that constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
